Istuessani nyt Dallas-Fort Worthin lentokentällä, yritän pukea sanoiksi kaikkea tätä mitä on viimeisen parin kuukauden aikana tullut koettua. Viimeiset pelit saatiin pakettiin jo muutama päivä sitten, mutta vielä pelien jäljet näkyvät ja tuntuvat kropassa. Nämä jäljet häipyvät ajan myötä, mutta kaikki nämä kokemukset ja muistot, ne pysyvät. Ennen pidempää yhteenvetoa, käydään vielä läpi viimeisen viikonlopun tapahtumia.
Fort Worth Jaguars – Utah Raptors 7-6
Viimeisellä viikonlopulla pelattiin vielä yksi kierros runkosarjaa perjantain ja lauantain aikana ja sitten sunnuntaina välierät ja mitalipelit. Perjantain ja lauantain pelit olivat vähän matalatempoisempia, koska joukkueet halusivat säästellä voimia sunnuntaita varten. Muutamaan otteeseen näytti, että me voitamme pelin selkeästikin, mutta kolmannen erän jarruttelut tekivät lopputuloksesta tiukemman. Mitään sen kummempaa pelissä ei tapahtunut.
Fort Worth Jaguars – Florida Vikings 2-9
Tämän pelin panoksena oli runkosarjan voitto ja se, että voittaja saa välierissä vastaansa Fresno Forcen ja häviäjä Utah Raptorsin. Florida tuli otteluun selkeästi paremmalla asenteella, joten aika alusta lähtien huomasimme, että on parempi säästellä itseämme ja ottaa ottelu rennommin. 45 minuutin pelin jälkeen ottelu oli jo 0-8 lukemissa ja lopussa Floridakin alkoi hellittämään vauhtia ja näin loppulukemia saatiin hieman kaunistettua. Tämän ottelun myötä runkosarjan asetelma oli jo valmis, mutta vielä oli yhdet ottelut pelattavana ennen playoffeja.
Fort Worth Jaguars – Fresno Force 12-4
Edellisellä viikonlopulla meidät voittanut Fresno ei tällä kertaa meitä päässyt yllättämään. Tosin hekin tiesivät, että heidän ainoa mahdollisuus on ladata kaikki voimansa välierien tai mitalipelien yllätystä varten. Pelin kulku täysin meidän hallussa ja lopussa ainoa meidän tavoitteemme oli saada Rasmus Pasaselle pistepörssin voitto. 7 pisteen esitys lopulta toi Pasasen runkosarjan pistepörssin jaetulle ykkössijalle ja jos playoffien pisteet lasketaan samaan, niin lopulta voittokin irtosi kahden pisteen erolla. Lopputulos selkeä ja playoffeihin valmistautuminen sai alkaa.
Välierä: Fort Worth Jaguars – Utah Raptors 6-1
Utah Raptors oli ainoa joukkue, joka ei onnistunut meitä voittamaan runkosarjassa ja emme myöskään aikonut antaa heille ensimmäistä voittoa välierässäkään. Pelin kulku alusta asti meidän sanelemana ja jo parin erän jälkeen oli selkeää, kuka ottelun tulee voittamaan, vaikka maalit olivat vasta 4-1. Jo alusta asti Utahin ruotsalaispelaajilla tunteet kävivät kuumina ja kolmannessa erässä homma karkasi kokonaan käsistä. Utahin penkiltä kuului valmentajan käsky toisen erän jälkeen, että ottelua he eivät tule voittamaan, joten tavoitteena on vahingoittaa mahdollisimman montaa suomalaispelaajaa. Tähän Utah alkoikin keskittymään ja muutama törkeä vahingoittamisyritys kentällä nähtiinkin. Sanomattakin selvää, että tämmöistä ei saa näkyä tässäkään lajissa. Tärkeintä meille oli kuitenkin, että saatiin finaalipaikka ja kaikki pelaajatkin edes jonkinlaiseen pelikuntoon illan finaalia varten.
Finaali: Fort Worth Jaguars – Florida Vikings 3 – 11
Finaalissa asettui vastaan odotetusti Florida Vikings, joka hoiti välierissä Fresnon 8-1 lukemin. Molemmille joukkueille tämä oli viikonlopun viides ottelu 48 tunnin sisällä. Kuten finaalin loppulukemista voi jo päätellä, ei tarvinne kahteen kertaan arvata kummalla joukkueella oli enemmän energiaa. Joukkueidemme kärkipelaajien taso oli tasaista ja olisimme pystyneet hyvänä päivänä Floridan haastamaan, mutta Floridan syvyys oli meille liikaa. Florida pystyi jalkauttamaan lähes kolme täyttä kentällistä Euroopan pelaajia, kun taas meidän kokoonpanossamme oli yhteensä 14 pelaajaa. Kahden kentän pyörityksessä meiltä vain selkeästi loppui jalka ja näin voittajasta ei jäänyt epäselvyyttä.
Onnittelut siis Florida Vikingsille ja onnittelut myös Fresno Forcelle, joka ansaitusti voitti pronssiottelussa Utah Raptorsin, joka ei välierähölmöilyjensä ansiosta ansainnutkaan yhtään mitään.
Mitä tästä kaikesta jäi nyt sitten itselle käteen? En väitä, että kuluneen parin kuukauden aikana olen pelannut tasokkainta ja tärkeintä salibandyä, mutta aivan varmasti mieleenpainuvinta. Nämä kokemukset ei kuitenkaan tule itsestään vaan ne pitää tehdä. Amerikan maita on matkattu upealla porukalla ja pelejä väännetty yhdessä. Vaikka kirkkainta palkintoa ei lopulta tullutkaan, niin missään tapauksessa paha maku tästä ei jäänyt.
Se mihin ja miten tästä edetään jää vielä mietintämyssyyn ja kirjoittelen omista ajatuksista sitten, kun on vähän saanut hengähtää ja keräillä itseään. Itselläni on vielä edessä viikon verran reissaamista, joten nyt lähden lennolleni!

NAFL season comes to an end
As I sit on the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, I’m trying to put it into words, what I’ve been through these past two months. We finished our last games few days ago, but I still feel the bumps and bruises in my body. These fade over time, but all these experiences and memories, those will stay. Without further rambling, let’s go over the last games of the season.
Fort Worth Jaguars – Utah Raptors 7-6
On the last weekend, we still played one round of the regular season on Friday and Saturday and then we’d have the playoffs on Sunday. The regular season games were a bit lower regarding tempo since every team wanted to save their strength for Sunday. Few times it seemed that we would run away with the score, but us taking it very easy on third made the result lot closer. Not much anything of significance happened in the game.
Fort Worth Jaguars – Florida Vikings 2-9
This game had some meaning, as the winner of this game would be the 1st seed and would face Fresno Force in the semifinals. Florida clearly had more motivation so we soon realized that it would be better to take it easy save ourselves for the playoffs. After 45 minutes, the game was already 0-8 and then Florida started letting their foot off the gas and that allowed us to score few goals as well. So, after the game, the regular season standings were set, but we still had one more regular season game to play.
Fort Worth Jaguars – Fresno Force 12-4
Fresno was able to surprise us the weekend before but this time the same didn’t happen. Although they had also realized that they should try to focus on surprising some team in the playoffs. We had the game in our control for the full 60 minutes and in the end our only goal was to get more points to Rasmus Pasanen, so he could win the scoring race. In the end his 7-point game was enough to tie him for the scoring lead and if we also count the playoffs points, he won it by two points. In the end the result was clear from the start, and we could start preparing for the playoffs.
Semifinal: Fort Worth Jaguars – Utah Raptors 6-1
Utah Raptors was the only team that couldn’t beat us in the regular season, and we weren’t going to lose to them this time either. We had the control of the game from the start and after two periods, it was clear who was going to win the game even though the score was only 4-1. The Swedish players of Utah have had some trouble with their emotions for the whole season, but in the third period, things got out of hand. After the second period, Utah coach gave instructions that they should try to hurt as many of our Finnish players as possible since they are not going to win the game. This is what Utah started focusing on and we did see few clear intents to injure our players. Needless to say, this has no place in this sport either. The important thing though was that we were able to secure our place in the final and all our players were able to play.
Final: Fort Worth Jaguars – Florida Vikings 3 – 11
As expected, we were facing Florida Vikings in the final, who beat Fresno 8-1 in the semis. For both teams, this was the fifth game in the last 48 hours. As you can see from the result, you don’t have to guess twice which team had more energy left. Our top players were able to challenge Florida top players and on a good day we could’ve been able to beat them, but this time the depth of the Vikings was too much. Florida was able to field almost three full European lines, when our roster had only 14 players in total. Running just two lines, we couldn’t keep up with them and so there was no question of the winner.
So, congratulations to Florida Vikings and also to Fresno Force, who earned the third place by beating Utah Raptors, who well deserved their last place after the shenanigans in the semis.
What did I get from all this? I’m not going to say that in the past few months I have played the most skilled and the most important floorball, but I’m sure it has been the most memorable. These experiences don’t just come to you, you must create them yourself. We have travelled across the US with a great bunch of people and fought together on the fields. Even though we didn’t get the final prize, this hasn’t left a sour taste at all.
Where we go from here and how we get there, I’m going to leave for later when I have had a time to breathe a little and collect my thoughts. Now I still have a week left on my trip, so I better get on my flight!
